Bare Book Club began as Naked Girls Reading in 2009, founded by international burlesque showgirl Michelle L’Amour. In an effort to fight online censorship Naked Girls Reading went through a rebrand in 2020, and thus Bare Book Club was born. In 2023 Michelle handed over the reins to the longest running Chapter lead, Courtney Crave. Courtney has been on cast for the Dallas Bare Book Club Chapter since its inception in 2009 and took over as Head Librarian in 2017.
The name "Bare Book Club" symbolizes the club's mission to strip away pretenses and create an environment of genuine connection and self-expression. Our production fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment, promoting body positivity and artistic expression. We create a tasteful exploration of the human body, showcasing its beauty and vulnerability through the power of reading. Our audience is encouraged to further explore the literature we present each show and to support their local libraries and bookstores. Overall, Bare Book Club aims to create a transformative literary journey that goes beyond the surface of the written word.
